I have a feeling this all belongs to me
Philip Pullman has collected together his interviews, lectures and essays, including an autobiographical sketch. There is so much to delight in but especially this:
I didn't know that gruesome and wonderful fairy tale The Juniper Tree then, but I would have recognised one thing in it. The father is eating the stew that, unknown to him, contains the flesh of his son, and he says: "Oh, this stew is delicious! You shan't have any of it. I have a feeling this all belongs to me!" I knew that feeling. I knew instinctively, at once, that the telling of stories was delicious, and it all belonged to me.
